FORMER RESTAURANT MANAGER SENTENCED
FOR THEFTS
July 13, 2010
PRESS RELEASE
This morning, Randy
Scott Barr was sentenced to four months in jail and 30 days of Community
Service work following his conviction by a jury for Embezzlement and Grand Theft.
Judge Stephen Baker sentenced Barr, 47, after denying his request for a reduction
of the charges to misdemeanors. Barr was convicted in May of two felonies
related to his thefts from Cheesecakes Unlimited, a
Barr worked for the
business for many years as a server, and was promoted to manager in 2004, when
the owners began the process of opening a second restaurant. Barr was left in
charge of the Downtown Redding Cheesecakes Unlimited. Over a period of twenty-two months, Barr took
cash from the daily receipts and diverted it for his own uses. The thefts were
discovered when Barr abruptly quit his job. The owners retook daily control of
the restaurant and immediately noticed a sharp increase in their earnings. A review of the records revealed that Barr
was underreporting the cash intake for the business on almost a daily basis by
changing the records.
Barr was ordered to
pay restitution to the owners of the business in the amount of $40,000.00.
The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney
Erin M. Dervin, and investigated by the Redding Police Department Investigator Rob
Wilson.
