EMBEZZLEMENT TRAINING TO BE

HELD FOR LOCAL BUSINESSES

            On Friday, November 21, 2008 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the City of Redding Community Room at 777 Cypress Avenue in Redding, training will be held to educate local businesses and non-profits on how they can prevent and detect embezzlement.  The training is being hosted by the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office, the Redding Police Department and the Redding Chamber of Commerce.  The recent rash of embezzlements in our community has prompted these agencies to put this training together.  This free training will focus on:

·       How to avoid hiring someone who has embezzled before;

·       Setting up procedures to protect your business from financial loss;

·       How to detect embezzlement;

·       What to do if you suspect embezzlement;

·       What you can expect from law enforcement and the criminal justice system.

Speakers include:

·       Bud Houston, a private investigator.

·       Robert Griffith, a CPA with Nystrom and Company CPA’s

·       Mark Vegh, a labor law attorney with the law firm of Carr, Kennedy, Peterson and Frost.

·       Investigator Rob Wilson of the Redding Police Department.

·       Erin Dervin, Shasta County Deputy District Attorney

The training is intended to be a workshop where business owners can learn practical tools for keeping their businesses safe.
