PRESS RELEASE

June 12, 2009

CHILD MOLESTER TO RECEIVE TO 24 YEARS IN PRISON

Today, Curtis Keely, 49, of Redding, pled guilty to three counts of forcible lewd and lascivious acts upon a child under age 14.  He will be formally sentenced to 24 years in state prison on July 14.

Mr. Keely’s crimes date back to 1999 and involve multiple incidents of forcible sexual abuse of a minor female.  When Mr. Keely was interviewed by law enforcement, he confessed to committing the crimes.

The defendant’s crimes constitute “strikes” under California’s Three Strikes Law.  Because these are also considered violent felonies, Mr. Keely will have to serve 85 percent of his prison sentence before he is eligible for release.  He will also be required to register as a sex offender for life.

Senior Deputy District Attorney Benjamin Hanna prosecuted the case.  The investigation was conducted by Sergeant Lisa Shearman of the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office.  The victim was assisted through the court process by Shasta County Victim Assistance Advocate Janet Siler.
