PRESS RELEASE

February 4, 2010

MAN TO STAND TRIAL FOR SEX CRIMES

Danny Rasmussen, 41, of Redding, was held to answer to all charges after having his preliminary hearing today.   Rasmussen is charged with six felony sex crimes including Kidnap for Rape, Forcible Rape, Forcible Oral Copulation, Oral Copulation upon Incompetent Victim, Forcible Sexual Penetration with Foreign Object and Sexual Penetration with Foreign Object upon Incompetent Victim.   Rasmussen also faces four enhancements for his conduct, including kidnapping, and tying or binding of the victim in the commission of the offense

It is alleged that these events took place over a two day time period during which the victim’s family reported her missing.  Upon being released by Rasmussen, the Victim ran home and disclosed the sexual abuse to her parents.  The Victim was 18 years old, yet it is alleged that her mental competency is approximately 10 to 12 years old.

Trial dates will be set on February 16, 2010.  If convicted at trial, Rasmussen faces a potential life sentence.

The case was investigated by Shasta County Sheriff’s Office Detective Will Gardner and is being prosecuted by Senior Deputy District Attorney Stephanie Bridgett.
