REDDING MAN CONVICTED OF SELLING ALCOHOL TO MINOR

March 10, 2009

Today, Terry Bruce Weatherford of Redding was found guilty by a jury of a violation of Selling Alcohol to a Minor.  Judge Cara Beatty sentenced Weatherford, 66, to the mandatory $3,250 fine and 24 hours community service for the offense.

Redding Police Department, in conjunction with the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, conducted a series of sting operations, where a person from the age of 18-20, under direction of police officers, would attempt to purchase alcohol from various places of business throughout Redding.  The minor in this case entered BT’s By The Way bar, and ordered a beer from Weatherford, then the owner.  Weatherford asked for her driver’s license, which she produced, but served her the alcohol, despite a date of birth in 1990 and two broad horizontal colored stripes on the driver’s license indicating she would not be 21 until the year 2011.

The mandatory fine for this misdemeanor offense is $3,250, indicating the seriousness of this conduct.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Brian Weisel, and investigated by Sergeant Moravec and Officer Torum of the Redding Police Department, and the minor decoy that purchased the alcohol.
