PRESS RELEASE

January 29, 2010

David Lee Wilkie, of Anderson, pleaded guilty to possession for sale of a controlled substance, two counts of transportation of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, and evading a police officer with disregard for public safety.  He also admitted a prison prior term and an out on bail enhancement.  Wilkie agreed to 10 years in state prison and was sentenced after the plea.  The charges come from three separate cases occurring between May 4, 2009 and August 25, 2009.

On May 4, 2009, SINTF agents executed a search warrant on Wilkie’s storage shed.  After observing a possible hand to hand transaction, the agents stopped Wilkie’s vehicle and found Wilkie with three baggies of methamphetamine in his pocket and a fourth larger bag that he tossed in the back seat of the vehicle.  The total amount of methamphetamine was more than 12 grams.  During the execution of the search warrant, agents located a stolen firearm and laptop.  On July 15, 2009, Deputy Grashoff attempted to pull Wilkie over on his motorcycle with a passenger aboard and Wilkie fled from the officer driving at speeds of over 100 miles per hour before getting in a minor collision and fleeing on foot.  He left the female passenger pinned under the motorcycle. A compartment on the motorcycle opened up and more than 40 grams of methamphetamine in eight baggies, as well Oxycodone and Vicodin pills were located. Wilkie fled the scene.  On August 25, 2009, SINTF agents located Wilkie and attempted to contact him related to an outstanding warrant on the previous case.  Wilkie fled from officers and drove away, eventually abandoning the vehicle and running on foot.  A CHP officer and his canine, “Echo”, located Wilkie hiding in the bushes.  Agents located methamphetamine dumped in water near where Wilkie was hiding. Wilkie had in his possession a small amount of methamphetamine, 20 oxycodone pills, marijuana and $1,770.

Two of the cases were investigated by Shasta County Interagency Task Force Agent Bob Carrell and the third by Shasta County Sheriff’s Deputy Steve Grashoff and all three cases were prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Emily Mees.
